Middle Years Programme (MYP)

The International Baccalaureate is taught in more than 150 countries and more than 3 000 schools worldwide. The Middle Years Programme is offered for students aged 11-16 years at Engelbrektsskolan in Örebro.

Through the MYP, students develop curiosity, critical thinking, and the ability to see connections between what they learn in school and everyday life. The programme gives students the tools to communicate, collaborate, and understand different cultures, skills that will benefit them both now and in the future.

Eligibility to Attend an International School

A child may be eligible to attend an international school if:

  1. The child is residing in Sweden for a limited period of time.
  2. The child has attended school abroad for an extended period and wishes to complete their education in Sweden.
  3. There are reasonable grounds to assume that the child will leave Sweden for an extended period of time.
  4. The language of instruction at the school is the child's primary language of communication with one or both guardians, and the child has sufficient proficiency in the language to follow the instruction.

Clear goals for learning and development

The MYP gives students the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in further education and in a changing world. It encourages critical thinking, effective communication and responsible decision-making.

Through local and international projects, students gain a deeper understanding of different perspectives and learn how they can make a positive contribution to society.

Our teaching approach combines conceptual learning with inquiry-based instruction. This means students don’t just learn facts. They explore ideas, ask questions, and develop deep understanding. Subjects include Language and Literature, Modern Languages, Individuals and Societies, Mathematics, Design, Arts, Sciences, and Physical & Health Education. Each area challenges students to apply their learning in meaningful and creative ways.

The MYP programme consists of eight subject groups integrated through global contexts that provide a framework for learning within and across the subjects. Students are required to study two languages: Swedish and French/Spanish, (also some an additional mother tongue). Other subject include individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, arts, physical education and design. In the final year of the programme, students also engage in a personal project, which allows them to demonstrate the understandings and skills they have developed throughout the programme.
